Electric forklift questions
How much does an electric forklift cost in Ireland?
It depends on the lifting capacity, mast height, battery size and options such as a cab or side shift. You can buy outright, take it on contract hire from 12 months, or spread the cost with finance. Can electric forklifts be used outdoors and in the rain?
Yes. EP's 4-wheel electric forklifts are built for yards as well as warehouses, with sealed electrics and models rated against water (the CPD20L1 is IPX4, for example). Pneumatic tyres, cabs and lights are available on many models. Tell us about your ground, ramps and weather exposure and we'll recommend the right truck.
Should I choose a 3-wheel or 4-wheel electric forklift?
A 3-wheel forklift turns much tighter (the TVL151 has a 1,450 mm turning radius, against 2,347 mm for the 4-wheel EFL303), so it suits narrow aisles, trailers and smooth indoor floors. A 4-wheel forklift is more stable on uneven ground, ramps and outdoor yards, and handles heavier loads.
What lifting capacity do I need?
Rated capacity is measured with the load's centre 500 mm from the forks. It drops as you lift higher, carry longer loads or add attachments such as a side shift or fork positioner. Choose a truck with headroom over your heaviest load at your highest lift. We'll check the load chart for your loads before you order.
Are EP electric forklifts lithium-ion?
Most EP forklifts we supply run on lithium-ion batteries, which charge on breaks and need no watering. A few compact models can also take a lead-acid battery. See lithium-ion forklifts to compare running costs.
Can an electric forklift replace my diesel forklift?
In most cases, yes. EP's 4-wheel EFL range is designed to do the work of diesel and LPG trucks, inside and out, and the high-capacity models go up to 25 tonnes. Running costs are much lower: a 3-tonne electric truck uses about 76% less on energy than a diesel one, according to the product carbon footprint study behind our savings calculator.
Can I try an electric forklift before I buy?
Yes. We can bring a demo truck to your site so your drivers can try it on your own loads and ground, or you can see the range at our Navan depot. Get in touch to arrange it.
Who services the forklift after I buy it?
Our own mobile engineers service and repair your truck across all 32 counties, and carry out the statutory thorough examination (GA1 in the Republic, LOLER in Northern Ireland). Genuine EP parts come direct from the factory. See service and parts.
