About this type

Why use an order picker?

When you pick cases, cartons or parts rather than full pallets, the operator has to get to the shelf. An order picker lifts the operator, with a tray or pallet to pick onto, straight to the pick face, so there are no ladders and fewer trips back and forth. Low-level pickers carry the operator along the aisle at floor level for fast case picking.

FAQ

Questions about order pickers

What is the difference between a low-level and a medium-level order picker?

A low-level picker carries the operator and one or two pallets along the aisle at floor level, for picking cases from the bottom shelves. A medium-level picker lifts the operator up to the upper shelves, up to 6.3 m on the JX1, for picking smaller items and parts.

Order picker or reach truck?

A reach truck moves whole pallets in and out of the racking. An order picker is for picking individual cases or items by hand. If you do both, many sites run a reach truck for replenishment and order pickers for picking.

How often does an order picker need a thorough examination?

Because it lifts people, an order picker needs a thorough examination at least every 6 months (GA1 in the Republic, LOLER in Northern Ireland), not every 12. Our engineers carry these out alongside servicing.

How high can an order picker pick?

The JX1 picks up to 6.3 m, the JX2-4 up to 5.8 m, the JX2-3 up to 5.1 m and the compact JX0 up to 4.5 m. Low-level pickers work from the floor.

Can I hire an order picker instead of buying?

Yes. Every model on this page is available on contract hire from 12 months, with servicing, repairs and inspections included in one monthly payment. We don't do short-term hire.

Who services and inspects it?

Our own mobile engineers service and repair EP warehouse trucks across all 32 counties, with genuine EP parts direct from the factory. They also carry out the statutory thorough examination of lifting equipment (GA1 in the Republic, LOLER in Northern Ireland). See service and parts.
